what style wedding dress would look good on a short petite girl?

I'm 19 and my fiance is 21. We haven't set a date yet but the wedding will probably be during the summer. I've always wanted a "fairy-tale wedding" with the typical princess/ballgown style dress but I don't want to look like the dress ate me. Any suggestions? I need all the advice I can get!
pictures would be a ton of help. We're on a tight budget so I may be designing my own.

since ur on a tight budget, ur better off renting a beautiful expensive dress rather than buying a cheaper one. besides, theres no point buying one cos unlike other outfits, u can only wear a wedding dress to 1 occassion: ur wedding

if ur feeling modern, knee length summery wedding dresses look divine on slim petite ladies, especially if ur planning to hold ur reception outdoors
